Construction Updates

We started installing erosion control the first week of March and started mass excavation on through the middle of March.  Also in mid-March, we began the installation of temporary shoring and the tie-backs on the shoring system were installed.  The subgrade in the north half of the proton equipment area was achieved the third week in April.   The test pile for augercast piles was completed, tested and approved.  In the coming months, the pile cap installation will follow immediately behind our pile installation

The Georgia Department of Transportation approved the road/sidewalk closures and utility permits to allow the utilities in Ponce de Leon Ave and North Avenue to be installed via a jack & bore method.  The jack & bore of the sanitary lines in North Avenue was also completed in April.

Mass excavation in conjunction with shoring continued throughout April.  Subgrade elevation of the excavation was reached by the end of April.  Despite a challenging wet spring in Atlanta, the construction team kept producing even with a 5” downpour. Completion of temporary shoring was provided for the GA Power transformer vault. The augercast pile installation is scheduled to be complete by June 3rd. Underground utilities in the future proton equipment area also began at the end of May. The project received all required Building Permits at the end of May, another critical milestone achieved ON TIME for the project. It was busy and productive spring for GPTC and all of our teams continue to excel with true dedication and commitment to the project.
